Ukrainian “huta” (from the German word "die Hutte" which means the building in which the glassmaking furnace is situated) is the Workshop, where glass is produced. First glass shops were build on the territory of Ukraine during the Kievan Rus period. Ukraine has about 90 settlements called Huta or similar names derived from the word "Huta". Many relevant titles still exist: Hutysche, Hutysko - ancient place of glass production. Ukrainian glassworks produced glass not only for Ukrainian market, but also exported to Poland, Lithuania, Germany and other countries. Ukrainian glass was quite popular in Russia, where it was called "cherkasskoje" glass. Ukrainian products, dominantly simple and cheap wine glasses, decanters, bottles, etc., had its national character and affordable price, which was quite consistent with local needs. Dishes on "cherkasskyy” style was typical for the products of the first glass factories until the late 18th century. The glassmaking industry evolved along with the technological development. The window glass manufacturing technology changed, new types of technical and architectural glass appeared. But the blown glass processing unchanged almost completely over the millennia. Even tools, the way of melting and decoration of glass is still the same as two thousand years ago.
